of mask making was founded in Venice, Italy in 1436 by the Masters
of the
Painters Guild. The artist presses papier mache into a mold,
coats the mask
with plaster then applies a second layer of paper mache. The
mask is then
reinforced & backed with gauze. This age old process
is still used today.

The people pay thee and want their laugh, you know.
If Harlequin thy Columbine has stolen,
Laugh, Punchinello, the world will shout 'Bravo!'" Ruggero Leoncavallo (from Pagliacci)
